Section 20
Corpse to be examined

(1) If any information is received that a person died due to someone's duty or due to an accident or by suicide or unnaturally or in any other suspicious situation, the investigating officer shall immediately go to the place where the body is and examine the body.
(2) While examining the dead body according to sub-section (1), as far as possible, the following items shall also be prepared in the format as per Schedule-14 and photographs shall also be taken of the dead body and the relevant place so as to depict the true reality of the dead body:-
(a) Introductory description of corpse,
(b) the place where the dead body was and the condition of the dead body,
(c) If there is any wound, injury, bruise or bruise on the dead body, the location of such wound, injury, bruise or bruise, the number, length, width, depth of each wound, injury, bruise or bruise,
(d) except as mentioned in clause (c), the means of death and the particulars thereof appearing on the dead body,
(e) any other symptom on the dead body which would assist in ascertaining the cause of death,
(f) Details of any other noteworthy matters.
(3) According to sub-section (1), the concerned investigating officer shall examine the dead body and send such dead body to a government doctor or an expert or a licensed doctor designated by the Government of Nepal at the government's expense.
(4) According to sub-section (3), the necessary expenses incurred during the post-mortem examination shall be provided by the Government of Nepal to the concerned police office.
(5) The autopsy report conducted as per sub-section (3) shall be prepared in the format as per Schedule-15.
(6) Notwithstanding anything written in sub-section (3), after the post-mortem examination has been completed as per sub-section (2), if the post-mortem examination does not show that death has occurred as a result of any wrongdoing or in suspicious circumstances, if it is deemed unnecessary to conduct an autopsy on such body, the investigating officer shall disclose the reason thereof. A leaflet should be erected in the Rohwar of the local gentleman and a missile should be attached to it.
(7) If the dead body is not in a state where it is not possible to examine it, or if it is found, the concerned investigating officer shall open a bond in the Rohwar of the local Bhadra Bhaladmi.It should be done. However, even if the dead body cannot be decomposed or an autopsy can be performed, other scientific tests can be conducted if the cause of death can be determined through other tests of the dead body or any part of it.
(8) After the post-mortem of the dead body is done or after the notice is issued in accordance with sub-section (6), the concerned police officer shall pay compensation to the deceased and hand over the dead body.
(9) According to sub-section (8) if the rightful person does not claim the dead body or if no rightful person is present or if the rightful person is not sure, the concerned police personnel shall take care of the dead body at the government's expense.
(10) During the autopsy or examination of the dead body or any other evidence collection, the investigating officer may take the relevant expert with him if he considers it appropriate to take the relevant expert with him after considering the seriousness of the crime.
(11) According to this section, if the expert or doctor who conducts the autopsy feels that it is necessary to conduct an autopsy by more than one team of experts in order to find out the real cause of death of a person or to investigate any other matter of the crime, or it is appropriate for the investigating officer to conduct an autopsy by a team of experts regarding the cause of death of a person. If it is believed to be the case, the autopsy can be conducted by such a team.
